It’s common for pregnant women to crave something like pickles, ice cream, oranges, or perhaps a combination of all three… Is it possible to crave something that’s not food?  I’d like the think the answer is yes because I have had the urge to go back to France.  I can not stop imagining myself wandering around Paris in the old neighborhood I lived in, heading to the boulangerie with Brian, and having a picnic at the park with the lake.  About ten years ago when I lived close to Bois de Boulogne and would go running in it, the park appeared to be a shady place with strange people standing in bushes.  I swear that’s what I saw!  Many years later I discovered a mini oasis as Brian and I walked from the busy cobble stone streets into a forest with a lake and island.  If only I had known.  Here’s a short video we made using a pocket cam from our Paris trip in 2009.  Below is a video of b-roll I shot in Cannes, France last year.

Cannes, France

Sometimes it’s just about being somewhere else.

Face A Face

This past July Brian and I found ourselves in Avignon, France.  We were invited to film our friends’ wedding in Annecy and traveled a bit after to Cannes, Avignon, & Geneva.  In Avignon every July, we discovered that there is a massive theatre festival, Festival d’Avignon.  There were hundreds of people wondering around Avignon performing and promoting their groups for the evening shows.  We spotted a French dance group, Face A Face, from our hotel window and so I filmed some of their dance moves.

I’m starting to make more of an effort to archive any footage I shoot, meaning I do something with even the small random stuff I capture.  This video is a good example of “archiving”.  It took me a hour to put it together and now I have a fun video from our week in France.  Please note that this does not replace the process of really archiving your footage by backing it up.  The ironic part of this video is while we were exploring Avignon & filming wild French theatre enthusiasts, our plane was leaving Switzerland back for the U.S.  We missed our flight, thinking it departed on a different day!  Five days later and a good chunk of money we finally got home with a story to tell.

Please share any random travel videos and stories you have!

The Boat

Brian & I had the opportunity to go to Annecy, France for our friends’ wedding.  I had written about it before where Brian took the photographs and I shot & edited their wedding movie.  We spent a few days with them and so I made a Tom & Laura series with short fun videos of various things we did.  Check out these other videos here.

I posted the trailer and now we have the completed wedding movie, below, of our very good friends Tom & Laura.  They decided to get married in a gorgeous mountain town on a lake in France..  Annecy.  We were two of the lucky ~ 30 people who attended & witnessed the adventures.  A huge congratulations to Tom & Laura!  We are soooooo happy you found each other.

Brian took beautiful photos while I shot video.  I love it when we can team up like that.  There will be several more videos to the Tom & Laura France series, such as the rehearsal dinner, wine tasting, ladies lunch, & more.  Please stay tuned!

Last year we found out our very good friends, Tom & Laura got engaged.  They made the brave decision to hire us to film and photograph their wedding festivities abroad… in Annecy, France.  Brian photographed and I shot video.  It was also a great opportunity to practice my French.  I studied in Paris eight years ago and explored some of France but did not make it to Annecy, never even heard of it.  Laura & Tom picked a perfect spot!  If you are looking for a town to visit in France, I definitely recommend Annecy.  It’s a small town pressed up against a large lake touching mountains.  It’s just an hour bus ride from Geneva, Switzerland.
